National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 15

This one is not abstract. Since the Supreme Court gutted Section 2 protections, new maps in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina have pulled Black communities apart and folded them into majority-white districts. Analysts estimate Republicans could pick up more than 190 seats across ten Southern state legislatures — most currently held by Black legislators.

They are not taking the vote. They are diluting it. Same outcome, better lawyers.

Here is the other half of the story: Black turnout has gone up. Lee County, Alabama — 62% Black — went from 31.05% turnout in 2022 to 32.92% in the 2026 primary. People are angry and people are showing up.

A ballot is not salvation. But it is a form of prayer — a public, collective act of hope that the world can be otherwise. Cast it, and then keep organizing on Wednesday.
